Short description
The ´Arche Noah´ Zoo is a small but very fine and creative zoo.
Owls, waders and parrots inhabit big aviaries. Bird breeding is a speciality of the zoo, particularly parrots.
Alpine marmots and skunks, rather rare zoo animals, live in outdoor enclosures. Small-clawed otters can be watched underwater as well as outside. They share an enclosure with muntjac deer.
Signage is very informative, comprehensive and interesting for children, too. Squirrel monkeys, macaques and other monkeys are shown.
Visitors may get in close contact to numerous domestic animals and also raccoons. Many exhibits accommodate several species.
The lynxes moved to a spacious enclosure at the sister zoo ´Essehof´ in Lehre, which has enough space for large enclosures.
A petting zoo and a pond with waterfowl are offered as well. Siberian tigers, threatened by extinction in the wild, may be watched very close through glass.
Cheetahs, tigers and many others represent threatened species. The zoo also supports conservation as a partner of Stiftung Artenschutz.
A new entrance has been opened, a chimpanzee house with outdoor enclosure and displays for smaller animals are under construction.
The ´Arche Noah zoo´ is a very positive example for a small zoo with a consistent concept and dedicated management.
