Short description
Bernburg animal park is situated directly at the river Saale.
It shows animals from five continents, especially hooves.
Indigenous animals are e.g. game, lynx, foxes, wild cats, several species of owls, wisent, raccoons and wild horses.
Domestic animals like ponies, cattle, goats and sheep are shown too.
Exotic animals are presented as well: zebras, porcupines, cangaroos, camels, emus and vervet monkeys.
The three brown bears have a great open enclosure, where they are mixed with wolves.
The Africa house occupies unusual mammals like dwarf mongoose, short-eared elephant shrew and rock hyrax, reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates and the walk-through exhibit with ring-tailed lemurs.
An America House and the planned Australia display are signs of the new division of the park in continents.
The animal park is involved in conservation and a partner of the Stiftung Artenschutz.
