Short description

Nordhorn animal park is situated only a few km from the dutch border. Showing a classical mixture of zoo animals, it is one of the most worthwhile animal parks in its class.

The animal stock includes chimpanzees at their outdoor enclosure, squirrel monkeys, wolves, trained seals, wood bison, Hartmann´s mountain zebras (EEP) at 5,000 sqm Africa enclosure and Persian leopards (EEP).

Several attractive walk-through aviaries accomodate waders, Australian parakeets, snowy owl and great grey owl. More and more classical exhibits are replaced by natural biotope exhibits.

A speciality ist the big price-winning walk-through aviary for vultures and ibex.

In 2001, the ´Vechtehof´ was built at the extension area to breed rare domestic animal species.

The South America exhibit with mara, rhea and alpaca is accessible for visitors, as well as that for kangaroos.

The zoo cooperates with various conservation organisations, who built information stations at the animal park. Wall charts provide informations about animals and plants.

The topics are very multifaceted: rivers, protection of bees, birds and wood ants, solar energy. Nordhorn animal park takes part in renaturation of a raised moss in Ringe.

Since 1988, the zoo takes care of injured wild animals, too. Nordhorn animal park is a partner of Stiftung Artenschutz.

A new facility for prairie dogs opened near the entrance. Under construction is the ´ibis lagoon´. The bisons will get a bigger enclosure as well.

While this works very well with most data, in some cases it might result in odd translation or missing additional details. You might want to have a look at the german German version for control and additional information.

Our aim is to provide the most current and correct information and to keep this database always updated. Given the amount of information and the number of zoos, there will be changes daily. Therefore, all information provided is without warranty, especially regarding entrance fees and opening times. Please see also the zoo's websites.
