Short description
Thüle Tierpark shows a potpourri of exotic animals as different as Brazilian tapir, capybara, pygmy hippo, mara, parma wallaby, nyala and meerkat.Tigers, Asiatic black bear, lions and leopards got new enclosures a few years ago.
Bird´s world is represented by macaws, caracaras, various owls, lesser flamingo, numerous hornbills, ostrich, rhea, glossy ibis and many others.
Enlargement and upgrading keeps going on in Thüle. Many old exhibits near the entrance were replaced by playground equipment and small fairground rides. Fortunately, the new amusement park sector is clearly separated from the animal park.
Spacious enclosures found place at the extension area, e.g. the barbary macaque enclosure with a bridge for visitors.
Kangaroos and emu inhabit a walk-through exhibit, while gibbons live on islands surrounded by moats.
A walk-through aviary houses glossy ibis, African sacred ibis, cattle and little egret, neighbouring a wader´s and grassland bird´s facility.
The monkey garden boasts a great collection of New World monkeys, among them species as threatened as golden-headed lion tamarin, cottontop tamarin and silvery marmoset.
Other rarities are Addax, Celebes crested macaque, Agile wallaby, black hornbill, ocellated turkey and Senegal wattled plover.
Thüle animal and leisure park takes part in some breeding programmes and stud books, e.g. for some callitrichines, tigers, Humboldt penguins and pygmy hippos.
